NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Apr. 20, 2019) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team saw a rare buzzer-beating goal by
Christina Truver lift them to victory on Saturday, downing the Calvin College Knights in overtime by a 13-12 final.
The back-and-forth game began in favor of the Knights (10-5), who jumped out to an early 4-1 lead before the Cardinals took a timeout to regroup. After the timeout, North Central came out firing, going on an 8-1 run to push the score to 9-5 with a little over nine minutes remaining in the first half. Calvin drew closer to end the period, scoring two straight goals to make the halftime score 9-7.
The Knight came back in the second half, taking a 12-11 lead until
Nelle Scranton tied the game with 37 seconds remaining. The score stayed 12-12 until the final buzzer of regulation, with both teams poised to capture the victory in overtime. The three-minute, sudden-victory overtime period came and went with no score until
Christina Truver picked up a ground ball near midfield and found some space. Truver weaved around a Knight defender and shot with less than a second remaining from around 20-yards out from net. The goalkeeper got a piece of the shot but somehow the ball found its way to the back of the net, dribbling in while the buzzer sounded.
The goal was Truver's fourth for the game, while the ground ball she picked up was her fifth. Additionally, she controlled 10 draw controls, bringing her season total to 105, the second time in her three seasons that she has eclipsed 100.

Jessica Deetjen, and
Annabelle Steiner also added two for the Cardinals in their 13th win on the season. Deetjen now has 60 goals this season, which only trails Gina Fisher's 61 in 2014 as the most in a single season in program history.
Camille Seghesio received the win after playing all 63 minutes in goal, improving her record to 11-2 on the season.
