NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Apr. 24, 2019) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team was slowed to a halt by Illinois Wesleyan University's stifling defense on Wednesday, with the Cardinals coming out on the wrong side of a 20-9 final score.
The Titans (14-2, 6-0 CCIW) were quick to take control, jumping out to a 6-2 lead with just over 20 minutes left in the first half. The Cardinals struggled to find an answer in the high-scoring first half, with Illinois Wesleyan taking a 14-8 lead at the end of the first half.
The second half saw the Titans shut down the Cardinals offense that has averaged over 15 goals per game, allowing North Central to score one goal with 7:32 remaining in regulation. Illinois Wesleyan added six more goals to their game total, with the final coming out to 20-9.
Madeline McHugh had a good showing offensively for the Cardinals, scoring two goals and adding two assists.
Jessica Deetjen scored three goals, which led the team and also pushed her season total to 63 goals, which is the new single-season record for goals in program history, breaking the previous record of 61 set by Gina Fisher in 2014.
Grace Steiner also added a pair of goals and picked up two ground balls in the contest.
Camille Seghesio saved nine shots in the loss, with her record dropping to 11-3 on the season.
The Cardinals (13-3, 4-2 CCIW) finish the regular season at home on Saturday when they host Carroll University at 1 pm. Click
