May 28, 2019 – D3baseball.com announced its 2019 All-America teams on Tuesday with sophomores
Rob Marinec and
Charlie Klemm earning third and fourth team honors, respectively, marking the fifth-straight season a North Central College player has been represented and the third-consecutive season with multiple honorees.
Both first-time selections, Marinec was named third-team catcher as only one catcher is named to each team after being selected as the Central Region Player of the Year last week. Marinec led the Cardinals with 11 homeruns, four triples, 53 runs batted in, 116 total bases and a .644 slugging percentage this season. He also ranked second on the team with 36 walks, including seven of the intentional variety, while swiping 15-of-17 stolen base attempts. Opposing runners were thrown out at a 44% rate, attempting only 27 stolen bases on Marinec all season and were thrown out 12 times.
Klemm was named to the fourth team as a starting pitcher, finishing the 2019 season with an unblemished 9-0 record, tying the program's single-season win's mark in the process, originally set by Gary Whitman in 1984. Klemm's 84 strikeouts this season ranked second on the program's single-season list, while also leading the team with 69.2 innings pitched. Opposing batters hit just .212 against Klemm, finishing the season with a 2.20 earned run average over his 11 games started.
