DECATUR, Ill. (May 3, 2019) – In day two of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship, the North Central College men's tennis team fell just short in its quest at the title match, falling 5-2 at the hands of second-seeded Wheaton College at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
The Thunder (12-9) opened doubles play with a 2-0 lead, but
Justin Howes and
Lucas Pindak cut the lead in half, clawing out a 8-7 victory at the No. 3 position over Jacob Panjwani and Jack Guenther.
Wheaton extended their lead 4-1 with singles wins at No. 1 and No. 5, before
Andy Hinch kept the Cardinals alive with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Alexander Winters at the No. 4 position. The Thunder clinched the match win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 however, advancing to tomorrow's championship match vs. Augustana College.
North Central (18-6) will take on Carthage College in the third-place match for the second-straight season, as the Cardinals look to avenge last season's loss with matches scheduled for 10:30 p.m. at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
