IWLCA Team Academic Awards
IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

July 29, 2019 -
For the 10th time in its 11 years of varsity competition, the North Central College women's lacrosse team has been recognized as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), and a trio of players have been selected to the IWLCA's Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll as well.

A total of 312 collegiate teams met the IWLCA's requirement of a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average to make the All-Academic list, including 153 NCAA Division III programs. North Central is one of five College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) teams to meet the criteria, joined by Carroll University, the University of Chicago, Elmhurst College and Illinois Wesleyan University.

The Cardinals' Rebecca Claussen, Sydney Manning and Christina Truver are among 652 student-athletes from 172 Division III institutions to earn a selection to the Academic Honor Roll for this year. To qualify, student-athletes must have achieved junior, senior or graduate student academic status and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater. Manning is a two-time honoree, while Claussen and Truver are recognized for the first time.

A graphic design major, Claussen is a three-year starter on defense who started all 18 of North Central's games in 2019 and ranked fourth on the team in ground balls (48) and caused turnovers (31). Manning, an exercise science major, started alongside Claussen throughout the 2019 campaign and recorded 28 ground balls with 23 caused turnovers. Truver, an English major, is also a three-year starter and earned First Team All-CCIW, CCIW Defensive Player of the Year and IWLCA All-Region honors this past season. Truver was the Division III national leader in ground balls per game (6.17) while ranking second in the CCIW in draw controls per game (6.56) and caused turnovers per game (2.94).

Members of the North Central program have earned 28 Academic Honor Roll distinctions since beginning varsity play in 2009. A total of 15 CCIW representatives qualified for inclusion this year.

The Cardinals finished the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 14-4 and qualified for the CCIW Tournament for the fifth straight year. The 2020 season opens Feb. 20 at Aurora University.
