2019 D3football.com Preseason All-America Teams

Aug. 19, 2019 -
North Central College football players Sharmore Clarke, Tommy Hyland, Andrew Kamienski and Broc Rutter have been honored with selections to the 2019 D3football.com Preseason All-America Teams, matching the Cardinals' largest group to be so honored.

Clarke is one of two offensive guards to be selected to the All-America First Team. Rutter is the lone quarterback on the Third Team, joined by Hyland as one of two defensive tackles and Kamienski as one of two wide receivers. The four total selections matches North Central's 2009 team for the most ever on a D3football.com Preseason All-America list.

Clarke started all 12 of the Cardinals' games at left guard for the second straight season and received the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's (CCIW) inaugural Offensive Lineman of the Year Award. He received a selection to the Associated Press/CoSIDA Little All-America First Team and the D3football.com All-America Third Team last season as well. Clarke was North Central's highest-rated offensive lineman all season long and did not allow a single quarterback sack. Clarke was also honored with Preseason All-America honors by Street & Smith's College Football Yearbook and Lindy's Sports College Football Preview in June.

Rutter was an Associated Press/CoSIDA Second Team selection and joined Clarke on the D3football.com Third Team in 2018 along with a second CCIW Art Keller Offensive Player of the Year award and D3football.com North Region Offensive Player of the Year honors. He established new single-season school records for pass completions (269), pass attempts (385) and passing yards (3,539) in 2018, throwing for 30 touchdowns and running for four more while throwing just three interceptions. He ranks third nationally in passing yards and completion percentage (69.9) while ranking ninth in passing efficiency (171.2). Rutter was named one of 13 nationwide semifinalists for the Gagliardi Trophy, the premier individual award in Division III football.

Hyland joined Clarke on the Lindy's Sports Preseason All-America list. He started all 12 games at defensive tackle in 2018 and earned First Team All-CCIW and All-North Region honors in his first year with the Cardinals. He finished the season with 25 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and a team-leading 7.5 quarterback sacks. Hyland ranked fourth in the CCIW in quarterback sacks per game.

Kamienski was a First Team All-CCIW and Second Team All-North Region selection a season ago. He posted team-high receiving totals of 73 receptions, 997 yards and 11 touchdown catches, ranking fourth in the CCIW in receptions per game (6.08) and fifth in receiving yards per game (83.1).

Ranked No. 5 nationally by D3football.com and the preseason favorite to win their third straight CCIW championship, the Cardinals open the 2019 campaign on Sept. 7 at Christopher Newport University (Virginia). Click HERE for the full 2019 schedule.
