SPOKANE, WASH. (Aug. 31, 2019) - After going down 1-0 after the first half, the North Central College women's soccer team put two goals in the back of the net in the second half of Saturday's game against Whitworth University, winning the game by a 2-1 score to improve to a 2-0 record on the season.

The first half proved to be a battle between the two teams, with the Pirates opening the scoring in the 31st minute when Savannah Acpal scored, putting Whitworth up 1-0 going into the half. The two teams were dead even in shots at half with nine, with Whitworth slightly edging the Cardinals in shots on goal by a 3-2 margin.

Coming out after half, the Cardinals sought to even the score and did just that, pulling even with the Pirates in the 57th minute on a goal by Aly Crum. The sophomore intercepted a pass at the top of the box and fired a shot past the Whitworth goalie. It was Crum's second goal in as many days to start the season.

The 1-1 game stayed at a stalemate for a majority of the remaining time in the contest, until the Cardinals took the lead for the first time in the contest. Freshman Kily Egan drew a foul in the penalty box and took advantage, putting the back in the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead with 12:27 remaining. The Cardinal's defense held strong through Whitworth's late push, taking the game by a 2-1 final.

Madison Lockard improves to 2-0 in goal this year for the Cardinals, saving six shots and only allowing the one goal.

The Cardinals (2-0) play their home opener on Wedensday, taking on Illinois Institute of Technology at 7 pm at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Click HERE for live stats and HERE for live video of the contest.
