NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 4, 2019) - With significant contributions from all areas of the team, the North Central College women's soccer team shut down the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks on Wednesday, winning the game by a 4-1 tally.
The Cardinals started slowly, committing a foul in the box to give the Scarlet Hawks (2-1) a golden opportunity to go up 1-0. Elena Esparcia Canad took advantage of the penalty kick and put the ball past 
Madison Lockard to take the lead. 
Allyson Viederis did not take long to tie the score for the Cardinals though, booting a shot from 32 yards out past the Scarlet Hawk's keeper to even the game at one goal.
It was all Cardinals after that, with 
Kily Egan adding her second goal of the season in the 38th minute on a pass from 
Sam Schutte to make the score 2-1 going into the half. Twenty-two minutes past in the second half until the Cardinals were able to fully control the game, when 
Kyra Ripoli adding her first goal of the season to the scoreboard to increase the lead to 3-1. Adding on to the already big lead was Egan again for her second goal in the match, taking a cross from 
Kaitlyn Cannon and burying it in the back of the net to push the lead to 4-1.
Despite the one goal allowed on the penatly kick, Lockard put on an outstanding performance in goal for North Central, saving seven of the shots sent her way and stopping multiple break-away shots from the Scarlet Hawks. She improved to 3-0 on the season with the win.
The Cardinals (3-0) look to increase their winning streak to four on Saturday, Sept. 7, traveling to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to take on the Warhawks at 5 pm. Check out the live stats for that game
