Illinois State University Invitational Results
Spartan Classic Results
NORMAL, Ill./AURORA, Ill. (Sept. 13, 2019) – Employing a tactic of divide and conquer, the North Central College men's cross country team sent groups to the Aurora University Spartan Classic and the Illinois State University Invitational on Friday, ultimately finding success at both locations.
The Cardinals came away victorious in Aurora, totaling 52 points to easily outpace the second-place Milwaukee School of Engineering, who scored 65 points. Wheaton College earned a third-place finish with 71 points, followed by Carroll University (73) and the hosts Spartans in fifth (150).
Campbell Koch sped through course in 25 minutes and 43.1 seconds to earn a sixth-place overall finish, leading his teammates through the 8-kilometer race.
Ryan Ziolkowski was the next Cardinal through the line, placing 11th with a time of 26.01, while
Jackson Swisher finished 18th (26:13.5).
Working together during the race,
Dolan Harris (26.19.9) and
Tim Bertulis (8:32.8) finished together in 23rd and 24th, respectively. Meanwhile,
Jeff Glatz secured 28th (26:28) and
Stuart Todd-Middleditch in 30th (26.29.1).
North Central found its fiercest competition of the season in Normal, Illinois where it stood as the sole Division III program in an otherwise entirely Division I field. Unfazed, the Cardinals landed five runners in the top-25 on their way to a third-place finish.
Marquette University won the meet with 51 points, followed by Loyola Chicago with 66 points, barely edging North Central's 69 points. The hosts Redbirds finished fourth with 100 points followed by Northern Iowa University in fifth-place with 119 points.
Continuing to impress on the young season,
Matt Osmulski was the first Cardinal across the line, finishing in a time of 24:45.6 for a third-place overall finish.
Gabe Pommier clocked a time of 24:59.4 to finish 10th, with
Alec Beutel (25:15.6) in 16th-place. Behind them,
Matt Boelke ran a time of 25:22.2 to finish 19th, and
Nick Licari (25:30.1) followed in 21st-place.
The Cardinals split up against next weekend, competing at the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 20, before traveling to St. James Farm on Sept. 21 for the Wheaton College Gil Dodds Invitational.
