NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 3, 2019) - The North Central College men's soccer team found themselves down 1-0 early to Rockford College but completed the comeback to earn the win, 2-1.
Following the Regent goal from Marquez Cruz in the 10th minute, the Cardinals responded quickly with a goal of their own. In the 14th minute,
Pablo Bustamante found the back of the net off of a cross from
Elmer Eng to tie the game, 1-1, which stuck through halftime.
Coming out of the half, North Central looked to control the game. In the 59th minute,
Steven Abalos found
Alexis Flores who scored the game-winning goal for the Cardinals. Flores took nine shots on the night, two of which were on target.
As a team, the Cardinals put six of their 17 shots on goal and earned four corner kicks. The Rockford goalkeeper, Francesco Martincig recorded four saves for the Regents and is now 1-2 for the season.
Marco Soto earned his second win in goal for North Central this season, with a lot of help from his defense. Soto recorded two saves and improves to 2-1 on the season.
North Central looks to win their third straight game on Friday when Carleton College comes to Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Kick off is set for 6:00 PM.
