NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 8, 2019) - Coming off of an overtime win of their own, the North Central College men's soccer team found themselves on the wrong side of this overtime game, as they lose to Rhodes College, 2-1 in double overtime.
Both teams played strong first halves as the score was tied 0-0 after the first 45 minutes. Each team took three shots, had two corner kicks, and committed five fouls.
Rhodes opened up the scoring in the second half as Juan Sandoval-Leon stole the ball from the Cardinals and finished it himself to put the Lynx in the lead in the 70th minute.
Less than a minute later,
Alexis Flores got fouled in the penalty box to shoot the Cardinals' first penalty kick of the year. Flores found the right side of the net and scored to tie the game at 1-1, which held until the end of regulation.
Following a zero-shot first overtime, the Lynx drew a free kick in the 106th minute. Ian Schiller put the game away as he scored the game-winning goal for Rhodes.
North Central out-shot Rhodes 17-6 in the game.
Marco Soto and Jaimin Patel each recorded five saves in the game as goalkeepers.
The Cardinals travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. on Saturday as they face the Hornets of Kalamazoo College. Kick off is set for 6:00 (ET) at Mackenzie Field.
