NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Jan. 18, 2019) - In their lone home meet, of the season, the North Central College men's and women's swimming & diving teams each fell to Illinois College in an afternoon that saw two Cardinals' seniors earn first-place finishes.
The Ladyblues defeated the Cardinals 62-19 while Illinois College won 56-26 on the men's side of things.
In the 50-yard freestyle, North Central secured the top two spots as senior
Nick Mielke (23.07) and junior
Austin Blaser (23.41) finished one and two respectively. Mielke also posted a time of 1:22.39 in the 100-yard breaststroke to notch another first-place finish. Blaser finished in second-place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:22.83.
Ben Laurich took home two second-place finishes, the first coming in the 1,000-yard freestyle race with a time of 12:40.44 and the second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.52). In the 400-yard relay,
Michael Davis joined Mielke, Blaser and Laurich to secure second-place by recording a time of 4:12.66.
On the women's side of things, senior
Amy Feltz won the 100-yard freestyle event by posting a time of 56.49. The final senior who was honored during the meet was
Marissa Hoppe who tallied a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:33.22).
Savannah Catalano swam a time of 1:24.64 in the 100-yard backstroke to secure second-place.
Caroline Canfield and
Molly Olk teamed up with Feltz and Catalano to take second-place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:33.41.
On Friday, they visit Illinois Wesleyan University for a double dual along with Millikin University. The meet is set to begin at 6:00 pm in Bloomington, Ill. at Fort Natatorium.
