BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Jan. 24, 2020) - The North Central men's and women's swimming & diving teams each fell to the host Illinois Wesleyan University and Millikin University on Friday evening.
The men's team recorded 55 points to Millikin's 157, while Illinois Wesleyan tallied 158 points to the Cardinals' 48. On the women's side, the Big Blue defeated the Cardinals 209-31 and the Titans were victorious by a score if 236-25 over North Central.
Amy Feltz secured two fifth-place finishes as she swam a season-best time of 2:33.49 in the 200-yard backstroke and recorded a 3:00.83 for the 200-yard butterfly. Senior
Marissa Hoppe also earned fifth-place as she swam the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:46.05, a season-best for her.
Caroline Canfield and
Savannah Catalano joined Feltz and Hoppe in the 200-yard medley relay to take fifth-place by swimming a time of 2:16.32. To close out the meet,
Molly Olk teamed up with Hoppe, Catalano and Feltz to earn fourth-place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.63).
Cameron Teel turned in one of the Cardinals' best individual finishes of the meet, as he took third-place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.17, just edging his teammate
Austin Blaser out by just over six tenths of a second (1:09.83). Teel also earned fourth-place in the 100-yard freestyle by swimming a season-best time of 55.86.
Ben Laurich also earned a third-place finish as he swam a time of 2:27.55 in the 200-yard backstroke. Earlier in the meet, he took fourth-place in the 1,000-yard freestyle event with a season-best time of 12:32.80.
In the final men's event of the meet, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Cardinals sent
Nick Mielke to join Blaser, Laurich and Teel as they took second-place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.88.
North Central visits Wheaton College next Saturday as they compete in the Wheaton Triangular along with Augustana College. The event is set to begin at 1:00 pm inside of Lederhouse Natatorium.
