WHEATON, Ill. (Feb, 1, 2020) - In their final competition before the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships, the North Central College men's and women's swimming & diving team was led by two first-place finishes and seven total top-four finishes at the Wheaton College double dual.
The North Central men's team fell 179-48 to the host Wheaton and 169-55 to the Vikings of Augustana. On the women's side of things, the Cardinals lost to Wheaton 210-20 and 194-27 to Augustana.
Nick Mielke, Amy Feltz, Marissa Hoppe, and Cameron Teel won the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 1:52.84. Teel also took first-place in the 200-yard breaststroke as he recorded a time of 2:28.21, which is a career-best for him. He earned fifth-place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.58.
In the 100-yard freestyle, North Central went 4,5,6 and Mielke swam a time of 51.23, Austin Blaser recorded a time of 51.77, and Nick Snow took sixth with a time of 54.30. Blaser took sixth-place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.10, a season-best time. In that same event, Snow finished in eighth-place as he posted a time of 23.89. In the 200-yard medley relay, Ben Laurich joined Mielke, Blaser and Snow to earn third-place with a time of 1:45.76.
Hoppe recorded a time of 1:15.52 in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn fourth-place. She also took sixth-place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.68. Feltz finished in fifth-place in the 50-yard freestyle by posting a time of 26.50, which is a season-best mark for her. She took sixth-place in the 100-yard backstroke by recording a time of 1:11.09.
The Cardinals next compete at the CCIW Championships which begin on Thursday, Feb. 20th. The three-day event will take place in Kenosha, Wis.at Pleasant Prairie Rec Plex.
