AURORA, ILL. (Feb. 29, 2020) - Starting off their new season with a short trip to Aurora University to take on the Spartans, the North Central College women's lacrosse team was triumphant in a back-and-forth 16-15 final tally, notching their first victory of the new decade.

The Cardinals found themselves down early in the contest, as Aurora jumped out to a 6-3 lead four minutes into play. Not backing from the challenge of being down, the Cardinals roared back into the contest with five straight goals, two each by Christina Truver and Grace Steiner with Madeline McHugh adding one as well.

The Spartans answered immediately, scoring thrice before going up 10-9 heading into the half. While keeping the score close and typing it up multiple times, North Central could not pull ahead in the second half until nine minutes remaining with Truver putting the Cardinals up for good. The defenses locked down from then on, with only two goals, one by each team, scored for the remaining time with the Cardinals finding themselves on top 16-15 when the final horn sounded.

McHugh led the team in goals with seven in the contest, while Truver had four and Grace Steiner added three. Both McHugh and Truver had two assists as well to lead the Cardinals, while Truver also had the team lead in ground balls with seven. Mary Pinkowski picked up where she left off last year and caused six turnovers on the defensive end while Abigail Widd saved nine shots in her first win on the year.

The Cardinals (1-0) head to the west coast over spring break, first taking on Whitman College (Wash.) on Monday, March 2. Click HERE for live stats and HERE for live video of that contest.
