NEWBERG, ORE. (Mar. 4, 2020) -Â Behind the strength of six goals and three assists by
Madeline McHugh, the North Central College women's lacrosse team took down George Fox University by a 20-10 score on Wednesday, increasing their win streak to three to start the new season.
The first half was close to a stalemate between the squads, with the Cardinals finding a slight edge on the scoreboard at 10-8 after the first 30 minutes of gameplay. Despite the Bruins (0-1) jumping out to a 5-2 lead to begin the contest, the Cardinals found their footing and scored five unanswered goals to go up 7-5. The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the half to get to the 10-8 tally.
Following the break, the Cardinals dominated the scoreboard and took control of the game, scoring 10 of the 12 goals in the second half to finish off the Bruins 20-10. The impressive run included a string of seven straight Cardinal goals, with a multitude of players joining in on the scoring run.
McHugh led the way with her career night of six goals and three assists while
Annabelle Steiner added four goals of her own.
Christina Truver and
Jessica Deetjen also got in on the scoring action, adding three a piece.
Rebecca Claussen led the team in ground balls with seven while also causing four turnovers with
Grace Steiner leading the team in caused turnovers with five.
Abigail Widd saved 10 shots on the evening on the way to her third victory of the season.
