MOUNT BERRY, Ga. (Mar. 6, 2020) – Closing its spring break trip on a high note, the North Central College men's lacrosse team posted a 14-8 victory over the Berry University Vikings (0-4) on Friday behind a five-goal effort from freshman Riley Bachinski.

After surrendering an early goal, North Central went on a three-goal run as Scott Allgood, Tommy Huizinga and Bachinski all found the back of the net in a five-minute span. The Vikings got one back at the 5:55 mark, but the Cardinals blew the game open by scoring the game's next six goals as Jared Weaver and Nick Rubino also got in on the scoring, allowing North Central to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.

Returning from the break, Bachinski scooped a ground ball and fired it past Berry goaltender David Gottesman for a man-up goal—one of three of the day as the Vikings didn't do themselves any favors and finished with more penalties (9) than goals. But Berry found some life in the second half, holding North Central to five goals while scoring five of their own, although the first-half lead proved insurmountable. Noah Miller and Samuel Fitzgerald scored back-to-back unassisted goals for Berry, before Huizinga momentarily stopped the comeback bid with a goal off an assist from Scott Allgood. The Cardinals found a few insurance goals from Jack Moran, Ben Staubus and Bachinksi in the fourth to put the game out of reach for good.

Bachinski led all scorers with five goals and is now averaging 4.0 goals per game on the young season, while Huizinga added three goals and Weaver added two more plus an assist. In goal, Jake Allgood made 12 saves in his first-ever start.

North Central (3-1) returns home for a non-conference matchup with Trine University (3-0) on Mar. 11, with a 7 p.m. start time at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
