FORT MYERS, Fla. (Mar. 7, 2020) - Facing two new teams in the Gene Cusic Classic, the North Central College softball team defeated Clark University 5-3 in game one and then dismantled Elms College 26-0 in game two as they improve to 5-1 on the season.

The Cardinals came ready to play as they scored the first run of the game on a Elena Stevenson double which brought Molly Cann around to score. The Cougars responded in the second inning as Samantha Restreop-Stier tripled and later scored to tie the game at 1-1.

North Central kept the offense alive in the bottom half of the third inning as Cann singled to start the inning. Following a Cougar error, Gianna Corban singled, allowing Cann to score, bringing Andrea Richards to the plate. She singled as Emily Miller crossed the plate to increase the Cardinal lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Miller and Stevenson singled to start the inning. Richards hit a double to bring home Miller and advance Stevenson to third base. Samantha Gadomski hit an rbi single as North Central would lead 5-1 heading into the sixth inning.

Clark would score one run in the top half of the sixth and another in the seventh, but Corban would limit the damage and pick up her second win of the season. She struck out six throughout the contest and allowed five hits.

In game two, the Cardinals came out firing on all cylinders as they tallied 10 runs in the first inning on five hits. The second inning saw more of the same as North Central added six more runs to lead 16-0 after two innings. The top half of the third saw six more Cardinals' runs as well.

Having already scored 22 runs, North Cental tacked on four more runs as they would win 26-0 over Elms. Gadomski was stellar on the mound as she allowed only two hits in five innings while striking out eight. She improves to 1-1 on the season.

North Central wraps up the Gene Cusic Classic tomorrow morning as they face Nazareth College at 9:00 am (ET) and then Alfred State at 11:00 am (ET). The contests will be played in Fort Myers, Fla. at Century Links Sports Complex #4.
