ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 16, 2021) – The North Central College men's cross country team secured a distant third-place finish at the Augustana Interregional Invitational. The Cardinals scored 120 points in the 24 team field that featured seven nationally-ranked institutions. 

Gabe Pommier was back in his familiar position as the first Cardinal across the finish line placing 8th overall with a time of 24 minutes and 32.7 seconds, just .7 of a second behind No. 1 ranked Wartburg College's, Sam Pinkowski. 

Between Pommier and teammate, Matt Boelke was a couple of No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer runners pushing Boelke into 11th and finishing in a time of 24 minutes and 37 seconds. Julian Higueros (24:44.3) finished in 16th, rounding out the Cardinals' top-20 finishers.

Connor Riss (25:16.2) and Drew Guimond (25:21.0) finished together in 41st and 42nd, respectively. Freshmen Jonathan Olenek (25:38.2) and Colin Kachlic (25:44.9) finished in 61st and 71st, respectively, to round out the Cardinals' top-7 finishers.

No. 1 ranked Wartburg and No. 2 ranked Pomona-Pitzer were unsurprisingly the top-two finishers of the meet with 39 points and 46 points, respectively. No. 12 ranked North Central made a jump for third with 120 points, leaving No. 22 Otterbein in fourth with 121 points and No. 10 ranked Washington (Mo.) in fifth with 122 points. The remaining ranked institutions, No. 14 University of Chicago placed sixth with 150 points, and No. 30 Calvin placed seventh with 232 points. 

The Cardinals' next competition will be the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Conference Championship on Oct. 30 on the familiar course of St. James Farm. This year's championship will be hosted by Wheaton College.
