HANOVER PARK, Ill. (Oct. 22, 2021) - Competing in the semifinals of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament, the North Central College women's tennis team defeated Augustana College 5-0 to advance to the conference championship tomorrow afternoon. The win extends the Cardinals' winning streak to 13, adding to their program record for most wins in a fall season.
North Central opened doubles play with a win at the No.1 spot as
Alaina Kanthaphixay and
Hannah Hougland took down their Vikings opponents 8-5.
Kaeli Smashey and
Natalie Bassett earned an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles while
Sydney Sawyer and
Nina Patience completed the sweep in doubles action with an 8-2 win in the No. 3 position.
Needing just two wins in singles play,
Mikayla Edquiban cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles before Bassett clinched the match by winning 6-2, 6-1 against Caitlyn Hanulikova of Augustana at No. 3 singles. Smashey, Hougland, Kanthaphixay, and Sawyer all won their opening sets before the match concluded with a Cardinals victory.
Playing in the CCIW Championship match for the second straight season, the Cardinals will face the winner of Wheaton/Millikin tomorrow afternoon. The match is set to begin at 1:30 PM inside of the Centre Court Athletic Club. You can find links to live stats and the CCIW Tournament Page
