Wheaton, Ill. (Nov. 17th, 2021) - In the first conference dual of the season, the North Central College men's wrestling program cruises past the Wheaton College Thunder for their 27th consecutive conference dual meet win, which dates back to 2017.
Falling in an early hole down three to nothing, the Cardinals turned to veteran 2020 All-American Robert Precin to get them on the scoreboard against Wheaton's 2020 All-American, Ethan Harsted. Precin would top Harsted one to nothing to earn the decision over Harsted and improve his overall record to 6-0.
The Cardinals would drop the 141 pound match, but the Cardinals would win the next six out of sevens matches.
First, Alex Villar would win by tech fall (19-4) over his opponent, Cole Cervantes would follow that up with a decision (6-3) and make the overall score in the dual 11-6 in favor of the Cardinals. Joseph Jens would win his match by major decision (16-7).
2020 All-Americans Brock Montford (184 pounds) and Cody Baldridge (197 pounds) would win both their matches by decision. First, Montford won his four to one and Baldridge followed that up with a five to two and improved his overall record to 4-0. Robby Bates closed out the evening with a tech fall (18-3) and to close out the dual with a 26-9 win.
The North Central College men's wrestling team returns to the mats on Saturday, November 20th, as they travel to Wisconsin to compete in the Concordia Open at 9am.
