Naperville, Ill. (Nov. 24th, 2021) - North Central's
Javen Estrada picked as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday, after a dominating performance at the Concordia Open. Also, the men's wrestling program was ranked second among Division III schools by InterMat Wrestling.
Estrada, from Manhattan, Illinois wrestled the 141-pound weight class at the Concordia (Wis.) Open on Saturday and won the weight class by pinning his first opponent by 13 seconds and followed that up with a 58-second pin in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Estrada pinned Concordia's Veliko Kochiu and advanced to the finals with a decision win over Kyle Slendorn of Stevens Institute of Technology. In the finals, Estrada pinned Wartburg's Zayren Terukina in 1:02 to take home first place.
Estrada was also named wrestler of the week by d3wrestling.com.
InterMat Wrestling released their rankings for Division III wrestling on Tuesday, November 23rd and has the Cardinals ranked second as a team.
In individual weight class rankings for Division III by InterMat Wrestling five Cardinals were named in the rankings. Robert Precin is ranked first in the 133-pound weight class, Estrada is ranked second in the 141-pound weight class, Alex Villar is ranked third in the 149-pound weight class, Brock Montford is ranked sixth in the 184-pound weight class, and Cody Baldridge is ranked second in the 197-pound weight class.
The Cardinals return back to the mats for their home opener tonight as they host Augustana College at 7pm insider Gregory Arena.
