Rock Island, Ill. Feb. 14, 2021 - North Central concluded last nights conference championship with four individual conference champions and three runner-up finishes and take 2nd at the CCIW Championships at Augustana College.
North Central wrestling was crowned individual champions four times last night, tied for the most last night with Millikin.
Bradley Rosen won at 125lbs first for the team and first time in his career as a young Cardinal. Rosen's journey to a conference title saw him pin Rosales from Carthage and getting a tech. fall over Rodriguez from Concordia (WI) and finishing it off with a major decision (12-2) in the championship against Augustana's Williams.
The second individual champion of the night,
Robert Precin, breezed through competition on the way to his title at 133 pounds. The second ranked 133 pound wrestler according to D3Wrestle pinned Hames from Elmhurst in the first round and winning with a tech fall (17-1) in the semifinals over Augustana's Boryla and then beating Millikin's Reese by decision (6-3) in the championship. This is Precin's second individual trophy in a row, winning 125 pounds last year.
Brock Montford was the next Cardinal to claim the throne at the championships. After taking sixth at the conference tournament last year hard work paid off over the off-season for Montford as he won by tech. fall (17-0) in the first round and using that momentum to pin his next opponent before winning the 184 title with a decision (5-3) over MSOE Vanderbush. Ben Bergen was the last Cardinal to claim his crown, winning the 285 pound class with ease. Bergen pinned his way to his title beating the Reyes from Millikin in the championship. On his way to the title, Bergen pinned Hunt from Lakeland and pinned Pena from Elmhurst in the semifinals.
The Cardinals saw them themselves in second the whole night, being stuck behind Millikin for the CCIW Conference Championship. The men scored 146.5 points in last nights action to take second. Augustana scored 105 points followed Wheaton (87 points), Elmhurst (67 points), Milwaukee School of Engineering (59 points), Carthage (15 points), and lastly Lakeland (0 points). Champions of the CCIW in back-to-back years Millikin won the championship scoring 153.5 points to take home the trophy.
Other Cardinal finishes include runner-up finishers from North Central included
Cole Cervantes (157lbs),
Rafael Roman (165lbs), and
Cody Baldridge (197lbs). Other finishes by Cardinals included
Andy Poniatowski with a fifth place finish at 141lbs,
Collin Mojena with a fifth place finish at 149lbs, and
Jordan Chisum finished in third place at 174lbs.
