PLAINFIELD, Ill. (Feb. 13, 2021) – The North Central College women's tennis team turned in a dominant 9-0 win to open the season on Saturday over non-conference opponent Concordia University Wisconsin inside Five Star Tennis.
Starting the day with doubles action, the Cardinal duo of
Sydney Sawyer and
Linsy Jante opened the scoring with a quick 8-1 victory over Mallory Moen and Jennifer Mies at the No. 3 position.
Alaina Kanthaphixay and
Katie McGraw followed with a 8-3 win over Mia Andrae and Ashley Saniter at No. 2, while
Kaeli Smashey and
Mikayla Edquiban completed the doubles sweep with a 8-5 win over Ricki Budewitz and Ashley Samuta.
Taking a 3-0 lead into singles play, Smashey earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Budewitz at the No. 1 position, before Kanthaphixay clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Samuta at No. 2.
Continuing the straight-set victory trend, Edquiban downed Moen, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, while Sawyer took care of Mies, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. At the No. 5 position,
Nina Patience cruised past Andrae in straight 6-2 sets, while McGraw closed out the day with a comeback 6-7, 7-6, 10-4 win over Elizabeth Johnson at the No. 6 position.
North Central (1-0) returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 20, travelling to Hope College with matches slated to begin at 12 p.m. (ET) at DeWitt Tennis Center.
