Feb. 15 2021 – On the only home swimming dual of the season for the men's and women's swimming & diving team, the Cardinals swam strong with multiple top place finishes.
The women's team saw their dual against Carroll University get away from them losing 175-51 and on the men's side of the meet, Cardinals lost to Carroll 125-31.
Friday nights dual against Carroll University, the men's and women's swimming & diving team celebrate their seniors. Seniors Austin Blaser, Savannah Catalano, Annika Cotner, and Naomi Hill all had strong performances, helping the team score points.
Blaser swam strong with a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.31, followed by teammates Michael Laurich and Maciej Sporna who finished 3rd (25.28) and 5th (26.31). Laurich also took home 1st in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.12. The scoring didn't end there for the Cardinals as Blaser and Sporna went 2nd (52.67) and 4th (57.62) in the 100-yard freestyle. To cap off the night for the men's team Laurich swam in a competitive 500-yard freestyle taking 3rd by 5 seconds with a time of 6:04.89.
On the women's side of the dual on Friday night, Cotner led the way for the Cardinals taking 2nd place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.80 and teammate Riley Wodka took home 5th with a time of 1:27.93. Cotner also, swam in the 200-yard freestyle along with teammate Catalano where they placed 4th (2:22.02) and 5th (2:31.04) respectively.
Jena Livesay swam her way to a 2nd-place finish in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:25.03 and teammates Amelia Woods and Julia Kramer went 3rd and 4th in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 27.87 and 28.21. Kramer continued her night with teammate Catalano in the 100-yard freestyle taking 4th and 5th with times of 1:02.17 and 1:05.79. Wodka and teammate Naomi Hill both scored points in the women's 500-yard freestyle taking 3rd and 4th place. Wodka swam a time of 6:09.99, while Hill swam a 6:30.75.
The Cardinals will next compete on the road at Millikin University, February 20th.
