Decatur, Ill. Feb. 20 2021 – The North Central men's and women's swimming and diving team saw their regular season come to an end Saturday, February 20 in Decatur, Illinois in their dual against Millikin University.
The North Central women's team lost their match up with the Millikin Big Blue 158-20, and the men lost a competitive dual to the Big Blue 73-38.
On the women's side, senior
Savannah Catalano took third in the 200 freestyle (2.26.82) and a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle (1.04.57). Teammate Natalie Gromles took home fourth place behind Catalano in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2.46.55 and anchored the 4 by 200 freestyle team with a time of 2:05.21 placing third as a team in the event. The relay team consisted of
Julia Kramer (28.37),
Caroline Canfield (32.61),
Jena Livesay (31.34), and Gromles (32.89). Also, on the afternoon Canfield finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 13.43.28.
Julia Kramer swam a 1.09.60 taking home third in the 100 yard butterfly.
Michael Laurich finished first for the men in the 1000 yard freestyle finishing with a time of 12.35.86. Laurich also, took home first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1.04.30. Senior
Austin Blaser also, had a strong showing in the dual on Saturday taking 1st in the 200 yard freestyle (1.58.66) and a second place finish in the 100 freestyle (52.17). Teammate
Maciej Sporna finished behind Blaser in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.60. Sporna also, finished second in the 50 freestyle (25.22).
The Cardinals will travel to Wheaton College next Saturday Feb. 27th for the CCIW Cup Series. Competition is scheduled to start at 11am.
