NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Feb. 9th, 2021) - After falling in the first set, the North Central College men's volleyball team won three straight sets to beat the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Tuesday night in Gregory Arena, earning their second win of the season.
In the first set, the Cardinals found themselves down 12-6, but battled back to even the score at 18 a piece. North Central kept it close, but in the end the Raiders came out on top, 25-23. Looking to rebound in their first home match of the season, they rallied around around
Jake Miller and
Jared Moser who each tallied four kills in the second set to win 25-19.
Continuing that momentum, North Central jumped out to a 13-6 advantage which led to a Raider timeout. MSOE's attempted comeback fell short as
Matt Nealon finished off the third set with his fourth ace of the match. Not looking back, the Cardinals posted an 8-2 run in what would be the final set of the match, as North Central won 25-19.
North Central held the Raiders to a .083 hitting percentage for the match. They also dominated in kills, 52-25 to secure the win. Nealon, making his name appear in the record books once again, captured 43 assists over the four-sets to place himself third in program history for most assists in a four-set match. Three Cardinals found themselves with double-digit kills as
Ben Williams led the way with 13, followed closely by Moser (7) and Miller (7).
For the Raiders, Austyn Bella recorded nine kills while Lucas Miller tallied 22 assists on the contest. Matthew Binkus finished with six kills and four blocks for MSOE.
The Cardinals visit Concordia University Chicago on Saturday in Geiseman Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 12:00 PM and will be the Cougars first contest of the year. You can find the link to the rest of the North Central schedule as well as live stats for the matchup on Saturday
