CCIW Release
D3baseball.com Team of the Week
Mar. 16, 2021 – After tossing the first nine-inning no-hitter in program history in just his second collegiate start against Spalding University on Sunday, North Central College pitcher
Ryan Behling has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, as well as College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Pitcher of the Week.
Entering the day with only 7 2/3 innings under his belt, Behling was in complete control the entire game, generating weak contact from the Golden Eagles, as just one of the 27 outs was recorded out of the infield, an eighth inning flyout to center field. Behling held the Golden Eagles to just two walks and a pair of hit by pitches, striking out six along the way.
According to College archives, this marks the first nine-inning no-hitter in program history and is the fourth overall no-hitter. Bob Walker '75 no-hit Wheaton College on May 4, 1974 in a 10-0 win and followed up with another no-hitter the following season on Apr. 26 in a 4-0 win against North Park as all conference games at the time were seven innings. Bill Sandefur '93 tossed a five-inning no-hitter against Albright College early in the 1993 season on the team's spring break trip to Florida.
North Central has now claimed both CCIW Pitcher of the Week awards this season and have been featured on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week in back-to-back weeks, as
Charlie Klemm was named to the Team of the Week and
Luke Lamm was named CCIW Pitcher of the Week on March 9.
The Cardinals enter CCIW play as five-time defending regular season champions and are scheduled to travel to Carroll University today, Tuesday, Mar. 16 with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. at Frame Park.
