LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (Mar. 19, 2021) – In the final tune-up before starting College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play, the North Central College women's tennis team fell at the hands of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 7-2 inside Lake Geneva Tennis Club.
The Cardinals (3-2) found themselves in an early 2-1 deficit following doubles play, dropping each of the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, but

Sydney Sawyer teamed up to defeat Olivia Kraft and Paige Nierman, 8-5 at No. 2 to head into singles play trailing by just one.
In singles play, UW-Whitewater (3-5) scored a pair of straight-set wins at positions No. 3 and No. 1 to set take a 4-1 lead in the match and put the Cardinals on the ropes with just four positions left playing. The Warhawks went on to claim the No. 4 match in three sets to secure the match victory, but Sawyer added another victory to her evening with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Molly Rueth at the No. 5 spot to provide a bright spot in singles play for North Central.
The Cardinals begin the 2021 CCIW schedule next Friday, Mar. 26, hosting Illinois Wesleyan University with match time and location still TBA.
