LISLE, Ill. (Mar. 26, 2021) – The North Central College women's tennis team opened up College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on a high note on Friday with a 9-0 shutout over Illinois Wesleyan University at the Benet Academy Tennis Courts.
Kaeli Smashey and
Linsy Jante wasted no time in opening the scoring in doubles play, shutting out Katelyn Heller and Bella Kiper, 9-0 at the No. 3 position. At No. 2,
Sydney Sawyer and
Mikayla Edquiban were no match for Anna Cooper and Ashley Mohr, cruising to a 8-1 final, before
Hannah Hougland and
Alaina Kanthaphixay completed the doubles sweep with a 8-3 victory over Alessia Girardin and Rebecca Rochacz atop the lineup.
Smashey was also first to finish in singles play, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Girardin at the No. 1 position, before Hougland secured the match victory for North Central at the No. 2 position, scoring a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Rochacz.
At the No. 3 position, Kanthaphixay shook off a 3-6 defeat in the opening set to complete a 7-6, 10-5 comeback win over Cooper, while Jante took care of Heller, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Sawyer followed with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Mohr at No. 4, before
Katie McGraw closed the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kiper at the No. 6 spot.
North Central (4-2, 1-0 CCIW) is set for a quick turnaround, hosting CCIW foe North Park University on Saturday, Mar. 27 at 11 a.m. at Benet Academy Tennis Courts.
