LISLE, Ill. (Mar. 20, 2021) --
Hosting its final non-conference match before beginning College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play, the North Central College men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 loss at the hands of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday at Benet Academy Tennis Courts.

The Warhawks (5-1) claimed two of the three doubles matches to begin the day, but the Morgan Red and Justin Howes were able to score a much-needed 8-5 win at the No. 3 position over Parker Hearne and Brendan Pietila to put the Cardinals on the board.

After UW-Whitewater opened the singles scoring with a win at No. 2, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez trimmed the Cardinal deficit back to just one with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Ryan Mitchell at the No. 3 position.

Trailing 3-2, the Cardinals surrendered a pair of straight-set matches at No. 5 and No. 4 to suffer the loss in the match, however North Central scored a pair of wins to end the day on a high note.  Steven Mears scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Noah Guillermo at the No. 6 spot, while Javier Suarez Balsera came back from a 0-6 loss in the opening set against Alex Gray to win the second set 7-6 before winning the match by retirement.

North Central (4-2) hosts Illinois Wesleyan University in the CCIW opener on Friday, Mar. 26 at 3 p.m. at Benet Academy.
