LISLE, Ill. (Mar. 26, 2021) – Opening the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) schedule on Friday outdoors at Benet Academy Tennis Courts, the North Central College men's tennis team did not lose a set in singles play en route to a 8-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Cardinals (5-2, 1-0 CCIW) claimed two of the three doubles positions to open the day, led off by a 8-0 shutout for
Javier Suarez Balsera and
Ramon Vilarroig Martinez over Ryan McCoy and Evan Turnbull at the No. 2 position.
After the Titans (6-3, 0-1 CCIW) evened the score with a 8-5 win at No. 1,
Morgan Red and
Justin Howes gave North Central the all-important 2-1 lead heading into singles play with a 8-2 victory over Justin Piotrowski and Dylan Mikaili at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, the Cardinals were no match for the Titans, scoring straight set wins at all six positions, as
Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez opened the scoring with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Carter Burk at No. 2.
At No. 3, Vilarroig Martinez rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over McCoy, before
Andy Hinch clinched the match win for North Central with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Turnbull at the No. 4 position.
Suarez Balsera then followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Demetrios Triantafel atop the lineup, before Red cruised past Piotrowski, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and
Steven Mears concluded the scoring with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mikaili at No. 6.
North Central continues CCIW play on Friday, Apr. 2, playing host to Millikin University with time and location still TBA.
