March 17, 2021 - In a similar situation the Cardinals found themselves in last week being down 3-1 after the the first quarter. The North Central College men's lacrosse team stringed together 7 goals in the 4th quarter to pull away from Marian University and took down the Sabres, 13-7.
Coming off back-to-back slow starts to begin the game, the Cardinals were able to tie the game up at 4 against the Marian University Sabres (3-2).
Nick Rubino and
Riley Bachinski were both able to rattle off two goals each in the first half to keep the game even heading into halftime. The Cardinals held a slight advantage in the shots department heading into half by out shooting the Sabres 24-20.
Out of the locker room to start the third period Marian's Dawson Rodin scored a goal 30 seconds into the start of the new half.
Scott Allgood and Bachinski would answer back for the Cardinals, before Marian was able to get another goal in the third quarter making it all tied up at 6 heading into the fourth quarter.
The offense really picked up for the Cardinals as they scored 7 unanswered goals to close out the game. Bachinski added three goals in the quarter and led all scores in the contest with six goals. Rubino ended the game with a total of four goals and was the second leading scorer in the game.
Jacob Ray went 18-22 in faceoffs and had nine groundballs, while
Jake Allgood was solid in goal all afternoon saving 13 shots in the win.
North Central (6-0) is set to begin conference play April 7th, by traveling to Illinois Wesleyan University. Game is scheduled to be played at 7pm.
