Cardinals Take Game One 8-3, Fall in Game Two

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Mar. 26th, 2021) - Competing in their first home games of the season, the North Central College softball team scored eight unanswered runs to win game one before falling to Elmhurst in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Shanower Family Field.

After a scoreless first frame, the Bluejays posted three runs in the top of the second inning. North Central responded with two runs of their own as Katie Del Re singled through the left side to score Kylie Ryza and Gianna Corban. 

In the bottom of the third, Emily Miller began the inning by reaching on an error and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Breanna Adams. To take the lead later in the third inning, Danielle Lambert scored on a wild pitch to give the Cardinals a 4-3 advantage. 

North Central opened the game up in the fourth inning as Jaime Smith hit an RBI single before Elena Stevenson hit a base-clearing double to right-center to put North Central up 8-3. Adams held the Blue Jays to one hit in the final three innings as the Cardinals took game one, 8-3.

Corban started game two and posted three shutout innings to begin the contest. In the fourth inning, Elmhurst strung together a couple of hits before Geraci hit a two-run single to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 advantage. The Cardinals responded in the top half of the fifth as Del Re belted an RBI-double to score Allison Lambert.

The Blue Jays added another run in the sixth inning and closed the game out in the seventh as North Central and Elmhurst split the doubleheader.

The Cardinals are in action tomorrow afternoon as they face the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Rosemont at the Dome at the Ballpark. The first pitch for game one is set for 4:30 PM.
