ROSEMONT, Ill. (Mar. 26th, 2021) - Facing the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) for the first time since 2007, the North Central College softball team split a doubleheader against the No. 14 Raiders, ending their 11-game win streak on Saturday in Rosemont.

MSOE jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top half of the first inning as the Raiders took advantage of three Cardinals errors. After the Raiders tacked on another run, Katie Del Re brought Kylie Ryza across the plate to give North Central their first run of the game. Alexa Sherlund then scored off the bat of Jaime Smith to bring the Cardinals within three, 5-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, MSOE added three more runs and would hold the Cardinals scoreless the rest of the way to earn their 11th straight win and keep their undefeated season intact.

In game two, the Raiders scored first as Jenna Trewyn hit an RBI single putting them up 1-0. North Central responded as Del Re hit her first triple of the season before Smith hit her home on the next at-bat. Elena Stevenson put the Cardinals in the lead by hitting an RBI double giving North Central a 2-1 advantage in the first inning.

Talia Torosian singled to begin the second and came around to score on Del Re's second hit of the ballgame. Gianna Corban held MSOE scoreless in the second and third innings before the Raiders pushed their second run across in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Breanna Adams doubled as Smith scored the fourth Cardinal run of the game. Later in the inning, Adams came around to score on an error by MSOE to give North Central a 5-2 lead in the fifth.

Corban did not allow another hit the rest of the way as she earned her second win of the season while North Central upset the Raiders, 5-2.

On the day, Del Re totaled three hits and two runs batted in while Smith scored two runs of her own. Adams struck out three in her seven innings of work in game one before Corban tallied seven strikeouts and two earned runs securing the win in game two.
