Mar. 9, 2021 – Honored with yet another weekly award, North Central College baseball's
Luke Lamm and
Rob Marinec were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Players of the Week, released by the conference on Tuesday.
This marks the third CCIW Hitter of the Week award for Marinec, also earning the honor of Feb. 27, 2018 and Apr. 16, 2019. This is first CCIW Pitcher of the Week honor for Lamm, as the Cardinals have been represented with a conference Player of the Week every season since the start of the award in 2003.
Picking up where he left off a year ago, Marinec hit .600 on Sunday as the Cardinals swept Ripon College, 12-0 and 12-1 to open the season. Marinec went a combined 3-for-5 with a double, triple, walk and two hit by pitches, while driving in four runs and scoring four times. The senior catcher reached base at a .750 clip while slugging 1.200 on the day.
Lamm was dominant in game two of the twin bill, striking out a career-high 13 batters over six shutout innings, scattering just a pair of hits while walking none. Lamm recorded strike outs for five of the first six outs of the game and struck out the side twice.
The Cardinals return to play on Friday, Mar. 12 in a top-25 matchup with 17
th-ranked Adrian College, first pitch is slated for 2 p.m. (ET) at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
