DECATUR, Ill. (Apr. 1, 2021) – Improving to 3-0 on the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) slate, the North Central College women's tennis team scored a 8-1 win over Millikin University inside Decatur Athletic Club on Thursday.
The Cardinals (6-2, 3-0 CCIW) opened the day taking two of the three doubles positions, as
Hannah Hougland and
Alaina Kanthaphixay were the first to finish in a 8-3 final over Brianna Barconi and Cristina Borunda at the No. 1 position.
The duo of
Mikayla Edquiban and
Sydney Sawyer were no match for Destiny Galvan and Shelby Jones at the No. 2 spot with a 8-1 win, before the Big Blue (6-4, 2-2 CCIW) avoided the doubles sweep with a 8-5 final at No. 3.
North Central wasted zero time in increasing the match score 4-1, as Edquiban and Kanthaphixay each cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively.
Kaeli Smashey then clinched the match victory for the Cardinals with a 6-4, 6-0 defeat of Nikol Obradovic atop the lineup.
Hougland then followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Barconi at No. 2, before
Nina Patience took down Danielle Beard, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 while Sawyer finished the scoring in straight 6-2 sets over Taylor Milholland at the No. 5 position.
North Central returns to the court on Saturday, Apr. 3 in the final non-conference match of the season, traveling to the University of Chicago with matches at Stagg Tennis Courts scheduled for 10 a.m.
