NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Apr. 15th, 2021) -  Splitting their seventh doubleheader of the season, the North Central College softball team downed North Park in game one as Talia Torosian belted a two-run home run before the Cardinals fell in a tightly contested game two on Thursday afternoon at Shanower Family Field.

Katie Del Re began the Cardinals off with a bunt single before stealing second base in the first inning. She advanced to third on an error by the Vikings, allowing Jaime Smith to reach first base. After Smith stole second and Torosian walked, Breanna Adams hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the third frame, Torosian hit her second home run of the year to give North Central a 3-0 lead as Smith scored from first. Pitcher Gianna Corban only allowed one hit the rest of the game as she earned her seventh win of the season. The Cardinals tacked on three insurance runs on an Adams two-run single. Emily Miller followed that up with an RBI double to score Adams as North Central secured the win, 6-0.

Game two was a pitcher's duel as neither team pushed a run across the board until the sixth inning. The Vikings used a walk and a fielder's choice to threaten in the bottom of the inning. After another walk, Ellie Manderfeld scored on a Cardinal error to break the 0-0 tie. North Central committed a second error of the inning as North Park took a 2-0 lead into the final inning.

Despite a leadoff single by Miller, the Cardinals were unable to score a run in the seventh inning and fell 2-0 to North Park. Corban totaled 12 strikeouts on the day while allowing zero earned runs.

North Central continues their eight-game homestand as they welcome Mount Mary to Shanower Family Field tomorrow for a doubleheader. You can find full in-game coverage links HERE.
