NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Apr. 16th, 2021) -  Scoring 19 runs over the two games, the North Central College softball team won both ends of their doubleheader against Mount Mary University on Friday afternoon at Shanower Family Field.

Katie Del Re led off with a double over the center fielder's head to begin game one. Jaime Smith scored her on the next at-bat with a bunt single as Del Re hustled around third and caught the Blue Angels off guard for the first run of the game. 

Alyssa Cork used a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second frame to reach base before Del Re hit her second double of the game as Cork came around to score, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, Mount Mary knotted the game at two, on a two-run double.

North Central responded in the bottom half of the fifth. Smith again scored Del Re on a bunt single. Later, Emily Miller cleared the bases as Breanna Adams and Smith capitalized on a Mount Mary error. Adding two more runs for the Cardinals was Cork who belted a two-run double to left field.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, North Central tacked on two more insurance runs thanks to a Miller single and an Amanda Martinez walk with the bases loaded. Adams kept the Blue Angels in check as she totaled five strikeouts and only one earned run, to win her second game of the season. 

Mount Mary jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before North Central bounced back in the bottom of the first on back-to-back RBI singles from Adams and Miller. The following inning, Adams hit a bases-loaded triple to clear that bases and give the Cardinals a 5-1 advantage. Miller then hit another single as Adams scored North Central's sixth run of the contest.

Reaching base every time she went to bat today, Del Re doubled down the left field line to bring home Cork before Smith hit an RBI double as Del Re crossed home plate. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals extended their lead to nine as Mary Leskovec doubled down the left-field line to trade places with Elena Stevenson, while Alyssa Texta scored as well, giving North Central a 10-1 lead.

Pitcher Samantha Gadomski was stellar in game two as she posted her second win of the year as she struck out two and only allowed one hit in the game.
