NAPERVILLE, ILL. (Apr. 17th, 2021) -Â Using a complete game shutout from
Breanna Adams in game two, the North Central College softball team split a doubleheader with Carroll University on Saturday afternoon at Shanower Family Field.
The Cardinals took the lead early in game one as Katie Del Re walked and later scored, thanks to an Adams double to right field. Pitchers Gianna Corban and Amanda Osterhus took care of business in the second inning as neither allowed a hit.
The Pioneers used a two-out rally to tie the score at one as Mathena Higgins tripled to left-center and came around to score on a single. They added to their lead by scoring a run in the fourth and seventh innings while Osterhus kept the Cardinals bats in check as Carroll won the first game, 3-1.
Emily Miller hit a two-out double to begin game two as Adams traded places with a double of her own to put the Cardinals on the board first, 1-0. In the bottom half of the first, Adams worked her way out of a bases-loaded jam to keep Carroll scoreless.Â
Jaime Smith singled to the left side in the top of the fifth inning looking to increase the Cardinals lead. After advancing to second, Adams hit her second RBI of the contest, bringing home Smith to give North Central a 2-0 advantage. Adams held the Pioneers without a run as they stranded 11 runners on base while picking up her second win of the year.
