Apr. 17, 2021 - A slew of personal-best efforts rallied the North Central College women's track and field team to a first place finish ahead of the seven-team field—five of which are members of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW)—at the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday.
The Cardinals scored 205.5 points to take the win over runner-up Washington University's total of 172 points. Host team, Wheaton College placed third with 134 points.
North Central nearly swept the first-place finishes in the throwing events, winning three of the four events. Maddie Bobinski won the shot put with an outdoor personal-best mark of 41 feet, 10 inches moving her to the No. 3 spot on the program's outdoor top-10 list. Alexandra Draves won the hammer throw (159'9") while teammate Irma Golden's personal-best mark placed third (142'6"). Daniele Stubner won the javelin throw (123'8") and currently ranks first in the CCIW. Faith Ladin placed second with a personal-best effort (123'4") which ranks second in the CCIW and moves her to sixth on the program's top-10 list. Bobinski also threw a personal-best in the javelin to place third (118'7").
Also placing first were Elizabeth Hodonicky in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 58.80, and Taiah Gallisath in the high jump (5'5.75"). Gallisath currently ranks first in the CCIW and moved up to the No. 4 spot in the program's history outdoors.
Kathy Myrda placed second in the pole vault and matched her personal best of 11'11.75" which currently ranks seventh on the program's top-10 list. Also placing second were Rachel Parthemore in the long jump with a personal-best mark (15'10.25") and Alexis Henz in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:43.89).
Julia Babinec placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.93 seconds, moving her into the No. 6 spot on the program's top-10 list. Also placing third were Hannah Jones in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07), Annie Brandt in the 400-meter dash (1:00.27), Jenna Fiore in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:52.40), the 4-by-100-meter relay of Nadia Baraglia, Kayla Olschanski, Amanda Osman, and Joli Lavieri (51.95), and the 4-by-400-meter relay of Hodonicky, Ladin, Brandt, and Allison Grady (4:04.95).
The Cardinals will split up next Friday with student-athletes traveling to Elmhurst, Ill for the Elmhurst University Invitational and to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays.
