LISLE, Ill. (Apr. 18, 2021) – Playing host to a tough non-conference opponent in Washington University in St. Louis, the North Central College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at the hands of the Bears on Sunday at Benet Academy Tennis Courts.
North Central (9-5) fell into an early 3-0 hole after doubles play, as
Hannah Hougland and
Alaina Kanthaphixay fell just short atop the lineup to Ally Persky and Karen Gao, 8-5, after the Bears (7-1) scored wins by 8-1 and 8-3 at No. 3 and No. 2, respectively.
In singles play, the Cardinals fell in straight sets in all six matches, as WashU scored wins of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 to clinch the match.
North Central returns to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play and can clinch the first CCIW Championship in program history with a win on Friday, Apr. 23 at Carthage College with matches scheduled for 4 p.m. at Smeds Tennis Center.
