Box Score

Apr. 19, 2021 –
It was a tale of two halves on Monday for the North Central College women's lacrosse team in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup with Carthage College, outscored by 11 in the second half to fall 23-11.

The Cardinals (2-4, 1-2 CCIW) hung with the Firebirds (5-6, 2-3 CCIW) throughout the first half, taking a slim 8-7 deficit into halftime.

Coming out of the half, Berit Vandenbroucke wasted no time in knotting the score at eight all, sneaking one past the Carthage goalkeeper off an assist from Jessica Deetjen.

North Central took its first lead of the contest on the following possession, as Deetjen connected on a free-position goal to give the Cardinals a 9-8 advantage.

That proved to be the lone time the Cardinals would hold the lead the remainder of the game, as Carthage closed the contest on a 14-2 run over the final 26 minutes of play.

The Firebirds held a commanding 26-10 lead in draw controls, leading to a significant time of possession difference and a 47-30 differential in shots.

19 of Carthage's 23 goals were scored by four players, as Hanna Holloway led all players with six goals to go along with four assists.  Jessie Gibson added five goals and five assists, while Margaux Giacotto and Elizabeth Oda each tallied four on the evening.

Four goals from Deetjen led the Cardinal offense, while Vandenbroucke finished with three goals and Abbey Triebe added a pair.

The Cardinals continue a stretch of three-straight home conference games to wrap up the regular season, hosting the University of Chicago on Wednesday, Apr. 21 at 7 p.m.
