CCIW Press Release
Apr. 27, 2021 – For the fourth time this season, a North Central College baseball player has earned College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Pitcher of the Week honors, as
Jason Shanner earned the weekly award announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Shanner joins teammates
Luke Lamm and
Ryan Behling in earning the award this season, as a Cardinal has been awarded Pitcher of the Year in four of the eight weeks this season. Lamm received the award on Mar. 9 and Apr. 20, while Behling received the honor on Mar. 16.
Shanner tossed a complete game in the Cardinals' 6-2 win over Millikin University on Apr. 24, allowing two first-inning runs before shutting down the Big Blue over the final eight innings, striking out a career-high 13 batters and did not allow a walk on the afternoon.
Improving to 5-1 on the season with the win over Millikin, Shanner currently ranks fourth in the CCIW with a 1.96 earned run average this season, while his 56 strikeouts lead the North Central staff and rank second in the conference.
The ninth-ranked Cardinals are set for a huge top-25 matchup with No. 24 Augustana College on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Zimmerman Stadium.
