CCIW Press Release
May 11, 2021 – For the second time this season, North Central College baseball's
Rob Marinec has earned College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Hitter of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
This is the fourth career weekly award for Marinec, also earning conference hitter of the week on Mar. 9 of this season, and is the sixth total conference player of the week award for the Cardinals this season.
Marinec hit .500 (6-for-12) last week to lead the Cardinals to a 4-0 record, with a homerun, two doubles, four runs scored, seven RBI and a .917 slugging percentage. Marinec also walked four times, was hit by two pitches and reached base at a .632 clip. Defensively, Marinec nabbed two of three attempted base stealers, while picking another runner of base. Opposing teams have attempted just 13 stolen base attempts on Marinec all season, while the senior catcher has also picked off seven runners so far this season.
Sitting in the program's top-10 in multiple career categories, Marinec moved into second all-time with 161 runs batted in, while also ranking fourth in homeruns (24), fifth in runs scored (136) and total bases (297), sixth in triples (11) and sacrifice flies (nine), and ninth in walks (86).
North Central (30-6, 24-4 CCIW) can clinch at least a share of its sixth-straight CCIW regular season title with a win today at Elmhurst University, as first pitch at Butterfield Park is scheduled for 3 p.m.
