PLAINFIELD, Ill. (Aug. 28, 2021) -
The North Central College women's tennis team opened the 2021 fall season by showcasing its superior depth and stamina, to record a trio of victories in the inaugural North Central Invitational at Plainfield East High School.

The Cardinals took down Central College, 9-0, in the first match of the day before the teams took to the court for a second match with different lineups. North Central prevailed by a 9-0 count in that match as well. The hosts closed the day by defeating NCAA Division II representative Purdue University-Northwest, 6-3.

Kaeli Smashey, Hannah Hougland and Alaina Kanthaphixay posted perfect 4-0 records on the day, winning singles and doubles matches against both opponents. Hougland and Kanthapixay were paired together at No. 1 doubles, while Smashey teamed with Natalie Bassett at No. 2 doubles.

Nina Patience won at No. 1 singles in the second match against the Dutch while also teaming with Katie McGraw to win at No. 1 doubles. The Cardinals' win over Purdue-Northwest was clinched by Kanthaphixay's No. 5 singles victory over Mar Vilanova.

North Central is idle until Saturday, Sept. 4, when it hosts Carroll University at Benet Academy in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opener for both teams.
