Waverly, IA. (Sept. 12, 2021) - Following a 1-0 win yesterday at the University of Dubuque, the North Central College men's soccer team extended their winning streak to five games as they took down the Wartburg College Knights 2-0 this afternoon. 

The Cardinals and Knights haven't faced each other since 2004 where the Knights shutout the Cardinals at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Today, the Cardinals got their revenge, the Cardinal offense attacked early and in the 18th minute Aidan Westerberg put one past the Knights goalkeeper to put the Cardinals up 1-0. 

In the second half, the Cardinals kept the pressure on in hopes of finding the back of the net. In the 68th minute, Westerberg would line up for a corner kick where his cross was finished off by Jack Fairwood to extend the lead to two. The Knights could not get any offense going as the Cardinal defense would only allow 2 shots on goal the entire contest. 

The Cardinals and Knights were very physical which led to 23 fouls and six yellow cards throughout the entire contest. Both teams had a total of 23 shots and six of them were on net. 

Sid Marquart would finish the game with two saves and improved his record to 5-0-0 and tallied  his second shutout in a row, fourth of the season. Brennan Woody of Wartburg would also tally two saves as he fell to 1-1-1 on the season. 

The Cardinals (5-0-0) are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 as they travel to Lake Forest College for a 5:00 PM kickoff. To watch the game or follow through live stats please visit our website.
