WHEATON, Ill. (Sept. 14, 2021) - Winning their sixth straight match to open the season, the North Central College women's tennis team defeated Wheaton College 8-1, which marks the best start for the Cardinals since the 2008-09 season.
North Central swept doubles play for the fifth time in the past six matches as

Hannah Hougland earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while
Natalie Bassett/
Kaeli Smashey (8-1), and
Mikayla Edquiban/
Sydney Sawyer (8-2) won their matches at the No. 2 and No.3 positions, respectively.
In singles play, Smashey (no. 1) , Kanthaphixay (No. 5) and Sawyer (No. 6) each moved to 4-0 on the year with win in their positions. Bassett (No. 3) won 6-1, 6-1 while Edquiban cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 4 spot.
The Cardinals host Millikin University (3-0) on Friday afternoon as they look to stay undefeated and win their fourth College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match of the year. That match is set to begin at 2:30 PM in Nike Park in Naperville.
