CHICAGO, Ill. (Sept. 15, 2021) - Opening up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play, the North Central College women's volleyball team overcame an opening set loss by taking the next three sets to defeat North Park University 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Following kills from Isabelle Guerrero and Amber Vande Hei, the Vikings won 11 of the next 12 points to take a 12-4 lead early on in the opening set. Despite the Cardinals efforts, North Park took the first set, 25-11. Looking to bounce back in set two, North Central jumped out to a 6-0 advantage. A kill from Abbi Barickman extended the Cardinals lead to nine points, forcing a Vikings timeout with the score at 16-7. A North Park service error secured the second set as the Cardinals won 25-20 to knot the match at one set apiece.

After a back-and-forth third set, a kill from Emma Happ sparked a four-point swing as North Central held an 8-5 edge early on. North Park responded to tie the set at 13-13 before a kill from Kaitlyn Boelter-Eberhardt gave the Cardinals momentum and won eight of the next nine points to take a 22-14 lead. A Vikings service error again clinched a set win for North Central, 25-18.

Looking to beat the Vikings for the first time since 2014, another kill from Boelter-Eberhardt put the Cardinals up 7-4 in the fourth set. Forcing a Viking timeout, A. Barickman's third kill of the set put North Central ahead 16-7. Having not trailed in the set besides being down 1-0, the Cardinals controlled the fourth and final set to earn their first CCIW win of the young season, 25-16.

Guerrero and A. Barickman each totaled nine kills, followed closely by Boelter-Eberhardt with eight to pace the Cardinals. Maddi Barickman dished out 27 assists while Emily Stallmann recorded 19 digs. Brilynd Pence posted 12 kills for North Park with Christina Gatta delivering 30 assists in the match.

North Central travels to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for a triangular on Saturday. The Cardinals will face two ranked opponents in the #11 Warhawks and #25 Concordia University Wisconsin. You can find links to live video and live stats HERE.
