CCIW Release

Sept. 7, 2021 – The North Central College men's cross country student-athlete Gabe Pommier earned his first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Athlete of the Week Award of the 2021 season after an outstanding performance at the Gil Dodds Invitational. The CCIW announced its selection on Tuesday.

The Gil Dodds Invitational hosted by Wheaton College was a promising look at what this year's conference championship may look like as all nine institutions were in the field in addition to eight non-conference schools. 

Despite the 228 competitors, Pommier secured a comfortable win in a time of 25 minutes and seven point five seconds on the eight-kilometer course--a 16 second personal best from his 2019 efforts at Gil Dodds Invitational. 

A true team effort helped North Central secure the team win, scoring a low 22 points and seeing six Cardinals in the top-10. The University of Chicago finished second with 103 points and the next-best CCIW school, Milikin University, finished third with 107 points.

Pommier's award is the second CCIW Athlete of the Week Award for the Cardinals this year as teammate Julian Higueros claimed the award in the opening week of the 2021 season. 

North Central will travel to Rock Island, Ill. on Oct. 1 for the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College.
